       DIRECTIONS FOR USE

1.

Place the Nature Nappy on top of the Rainbow Cover with the T-side upwards.

2.

Place a Bio-degradable Liner and/Washable Fleece Liner on top of the Nature Nappy.

3.

Place under your baby and fasten with the poppers on the Nature Nappy, then adjust the Velcro straps on the Rainbow Cover.

For newborns to ± 7kgs, tuck the inner flap/pad under itself, place under your baby and fold the front panel of the Nature Nappy down (outwards) and then use the bottom row of poppers to fasten. This will reduce the size of the crotch and make a smaller nappy.

4.

Check that the cover fits snug and covers the whole of the nappy all the way around in order to prevent leaks.

  TIPS
    1. Wash the Nature Nappies once before use to increase the absorbency (see washing care).

    • Booster pads can be used under the inner pad of the Nature Nappy for heavy wetter’s or for overnight use. For toddlers almost out of nappies, who are wetting through, try putting on two nappies at night.

    • Change your baby’s Nature Nappy approximately FIVE times per day or whenever you are aware they are wet. Do not leave the wet nappy as this will cause skin irritation from prolonged exposure to the uric acid in urine and faeces (pooh).

    • The Rainbow Cover only needs to be changed roughly TWICE a day. Wipe before placing a fresh Nature Nappy on top.

    • Keep your baby’s bottom clean and dry. Try our Goat’s Milk Soap for cleaning and the Stay-dry Washable Fleece Liners to keep your baby’s bum dry (see directions for use point 2). Also, use an effective cream such as the Mother Nature Barrier Bum Balm.

    • The Night Fleece Cover can be used at night instead of the Rainbow Cover. It is less waterproof but is softer in the waist and legs and is more breathable. Remember to add more booster pads to add to the absorbency of the nappy.

    • For a more airy nappy use without a cover at home on hot days.

        WASHING CARE

1.

Remove the wet Nature Nappy and flush the bio-degradable liner (see caution).

2.

Rinse off all solid matter from Nature Nappy very well (e.g. hold under the flush of the toilet or hose down into a bucket). Wear gloves if necessary..

3.

Keep wet unsoiled nappies in a dry lidded bucket until washed. Pre-soak (see point 4) if left for more than two days.

4.

Pre-soak badly soiled nappies. Use non-chlorine based products (e.g. 5 drops of tea-tree oil or one tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate per bucket of water). DO NOT USE BLEACH or products with oxygenated bleach. Sodium bicarbonate is useful in hard water areas (e.g. Gauteng) as it softens the water and will help to extend the life of the nappy.

5.

Stain removing tip: Using a bar of sunlight soap rub the soap onto the stain, hang in the sun to bleach then wash in the machine as usual or make a bucket of warm soapy water with the sunlight soaps and pre-soak your nappies in the soapy solution prior to machine washing.

6. During periods of frequent soiling (e.g. weaning phase) we suggest a two-bucket system. Dry bucket for keeping wet only nappies and wet bucket for pre-soaking soiled nappies.

7. Fasten Velcro on Rainbow Covers to prevent lint build-up.

8.

Always ensure that the washing powder/cleaning agents used are safe on your baby’s skin to avoid irritation and safe on the nappies (see don’ts).

Brands we have tested on the nappies: Sunlight Baby, Triple Orange, EcoSoft 2 and Ecover.
The following natural brands are also safe to use on the Nature Nappies: Entrantrix, Blou Waterblommetjies and Better Earth, but some customers have felt that the nappies were not sufficiently cleaned.

9. Wash Nature Nappies at 50-60°C. Consistent hot washing and high tumble-drying can cause hardness and some shrinkage. Wash Rainbow Covers in cold/warm water.

  DON'TS:
      • Do not use bleach (it corrodes the bamboo!).

      • Do not use a softener (it reduces the absorbency of the nappies).

      • Do not wash the Rainbow Covers in hot water (only cold to warm).

      • Do not dry-clean nappies or covers.

      • Never iron nappies or covers.

      • Do not tumble-dry the Rainbow Covers and avoid direct sunlight on the waterproofing side in order to prolong its effectiveness.

  DRYING TIPS
    1. Due to the bamboo’s high absorbency it does tend to take longer than cotton towelling to dry.

    2. Wash in the evening, hang up to dry overnight then tumble-dry on low or preferably just line dry.

    3. Try a second spin cycle to squeeze out the excess water.

    4. In winter, use a local laundrette for drying only, as this is often cheaper than your wash & dry cycle.

  CAUTION
    1. Bio-degradable & flushable nappy liners may cause blockage in some drains. Only flush one at a time. Use at your own risk.

        GREEN LAUNDRY TIPS

  1. Use an energy efficient washing machine (check AA ratings).

  2. Wash soiled nappies at no higher than 60°C to avoid using more energy.

  3. Wash wet nappies and covers along with the rest of your laundry to avoid separate use of water.

  4. Avoid tumble-drying (use the sun’s energy!)

  5. Only soak or rinse badly soiled nappies to avoid using more water.

  6. Use an eco detergent (e.g. Sunlight Baby and Triple Orange).

  7. If possible, extend the life cycle of your nappies and re-use on your next child or give or sell to someone else.

  8. Use washable nappy liners.

  9. The flushable liners are quite durable and if just wet they could be washed (in a mesh bag) and used once again. Cut your flushable liner in half for smaller babies.

  10. Recycle your grey washing water using the grey water system.

Remember it gets easier once you have your own organised system in place!
